The-Dream has been named Def Jam’s new Vice President of A&R and the chart-topping music maker is looking to keep up with changes in digital technology, while keeping artists as the focus of the industry. The-Dream explained that his background as a musician as well as a businessman will lend themselves well to his new position.
The-Dream has already built up his resume with his Radio Killa Records which has put out three of his records and signed deals with current YMCMB singer Christina Milian and Elecktric Red who landed at 100 on the Billboard 200 with their debut. “I am committed as I have been previously to bringing the power of belief in the artist back to the forefront. I share a unique view of an artist and as well as the business of music. I, with the help of many others, have ran a successful business for the last five years in the midst of the ‘Digital Change,” The-Dream told RapRadar.
Of course, The-Dream wasn’t to hesitate to not the long lists of artists that he’s worked with over the years. “My concentration and effort will be to the artist to succeed in their dreams and goals. I’ve been a part of watching and participating in the success of many great women and men including Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion to name a few,” said The-Dream.
The-Dream also added that the digital market may have devalued music for some, but it also represents a new challenge for the culture. “Music means more than just a download, it’s life to the culture and also the people who listen. This is a new exciting yet critical time for music – ‘You Meet Change with Change,’” said The-Dream.
