A free scoring Uganda Cranes proved to critics that it is getting stronger and deserves more respect after being able to score four goals past Congo Brazzaville.
Consequently, The Cranes qualified for the next round of the 2013 Africa Cup qualifiers as they edged out Congo Brazaville 5-3 on aggregate.
Coming in the game needing at-least a margin of 2 goals, Cranes proved its scoring credentials, scoring four goals; one in the first half and three in the second half. The goal scorers were skipper Andy Mwesigwa, Godfrey Walusimbi (penalty), Geofrey Massa and Emma Okwi.
Coach Bobby Willaimson opted for an attack minded 4-3-3 and it indeed paid off as the Cranes outplayed Congo through out the 90 minutes. On a better day, Uganda would have scored more than five.
Uganda’s first goal was scored by the team captain Andy Mwesigwa in the 35th minute. Mwesigwa headed in a headed cross from Godfrey Walusimbi. All this came from a Mike Serumaga left footed corner in the 34th minute.
The second goal came from a well taken penalty by Godfrey Walusimbi in the 58 minute. The penalty came after the Congolese keeper knocked down Uganda striker Brain Omony.
In the 72, Geofrey Massa made it three for through a single man effort, great turn and finally, a great shot that went on to damage the Namboole net.
Emma Okwi closed the night with an 86 superb goal. He too did a solo effort; dribbling off two defenders before netting for Uganda.
