50 Cent sits down to discuss how Eminem birthed his career, and also explains that rap beef does not sell records.
After just teaming up with Shady Records head honcho Eminem for his ‘My Life’ single, it’s only fitting that Fif explain Em’s influence on his career during his recent visit to the Carson Daly show.
“My career wouldn’t even exist, I wouldn’t even be talking to you if it wasn’t for Em,” 50 Cent explained. “It’s amazing that later in your life you could find someone that means so much to the comfort in your actual life. My grandparents were that for me before Em.”
Fif also goes on to explain that his G-Unit entourage wanted to be as big as him, and wanted to get 50 Cent out of the picture so they can grow bigger individually.
“You can offer an artist an opportunity to have the audience that’s interested in you become interested in them. You can let them perform on your stage and work in your music videos and everything but if they want what you have and they can’t quite do that, they gotta establish that on their own,” he shared. “The artists got uncomfortable and felt they wouldn’t be as big as me with me. I never felt, ‘I have to get rid of Em to get big.’”
50 Cent is no stranger to beef, feuding with many of the biggest rappers in the game including Ja Rule, Fat Joe, and of course former G-Unit member The Game. 50 goes on to state that although his been invovled in countless rap beefs, he understands that beef doesn’t sell records.
“Beef doesn’t actually sell records. It creates that barbershop/beauty salon conversation. Hit records sell records,” 50 stated.(theversed)
