ERIC SHIGONGO and John Dilinga aka DJ JD'(Tanzania promoters) have teamed up fight Jose chameleon using the media. One of their strategies involves convincing Radio Stations and Club DJs not to play Chameleone’s music anymore until he apologizes and repays their money.
In a press conference that was hosted by John Dilinga one of the music promoters who had contracted Chameleone to sing at their shows, Chameleone was described as a con-man. The statement which was written in Kiswahili has been translated into English to enable all our readers to understand the message.
’I contacted Chameleon directly and he accepted to feature on my album launch called Wakilisha. I paid him $3,000, after receiving the money, he never saw him again, he even refused to pick my phone calls.
He kept running/hiding away from me continuously. The big problem is that we the Tanzanian promoters don’t have cooperation and unity at all. Take for example this promoter who hid Chameleone and protected him from being captured in the year 2006 when Chameleone came for a certain show.
This time round when he performed in Tanzania, he repeated the same stunts. As usual he tried so much to hide so that I don’t hear about him. Despite his good hiding tricks, I kept announcing the night he was in Bilicanas. I notified the police and we went to capture him. When chameleone saw me, he ran away. My brothers, chameleone ran away like a thief. At Bilicanas there was Rita Paulsen of BSS and Merey Balhabou. When the police finally captured him, he confessed that he owes me $3,000 and accepted to pay me.
Basing on Chameleone’s confession, Rita n Merey requested/begged me to forgive him because Chameleone had accepted to pay me. I told them of how he had disturbed me so much. Merey said, ’if he doesn’t pay den I will pay for him.’ She played her cards so well since we are all from Morogoro thus I should leave chameleone. I accepted after hearing all that they had said, but from then, chameleone n Merey were never to be seen again. Merey was busy with her business, while chameleon once again refused to pick up my phone calls.
One day, I changed my number, called him and he picked up very well. I reminded him about my money and what he told me that he had no means of paying me. He suggested that the only way for him 2 refunds I was for me to prepare another show and he will come to perform. With all these promises, I arranged one but he never showed up. This means chameleon has a corny habit and as Tanzanians we are supposed to be united on this problem and put Chameleone in his place.’
JD says that he decided to come out and explain all this on the Radio and TV programs so that all the people can understand that chameleon is not a good person when it comes to money and that he even went to levels of denying his own promoter
The music promoters have now launched an appeal to see to it that Chameleone is banned from ever performing in Tanzania again and also launch a total blackout on his music. If this come into effect, it will be next to impossible to hear Chameleone’s songs on any Radio, TV or Club in Tanzania.
