WEIRD NEWS: Woman gives Birth twice in 8 months.

Babies are not twins

A 26-year-old UK woman has given birth twice in eight months – and the babies are not twins, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Claire Ormrod of Wales was pregnant with Alice, when she had an emergency caesarean section at just 25 weeks on December 6, 2011. Alice weighed 1 pound, 3 ounces, and doctors didn’t think she would survive.

But, Alice did survive, and seven weeks later – despite being on the birth control pill, Ormrod became pregnant again.

In September 2012, son Gareth was born early also, at 29 weeks. He weighed 2 pounds.

“I was absolutely petrified when I found out I was pregnant again,” Ormrod told the Telegraph. “My (doctor) said I should have a termination; he said it would end up killing me and the baby, and that it wouldn’t be fair to put me through it. But I said, no, straight out."

Ormrod has three older children, who were also born in spite of “precautions,” the Telegraph reported.

CRAZY WORLD: Doctors forget 16 items inside patient during Surgery.

GERMANY: A man who underwent surgery at a hospital was left with unbearable pain after 16 medical items were mistakenly left inside his body, according to press reports in Germany, quoted by ABC News.

The man, who was identified as 74-year-old Dirk Schroeder, had a routine surgery for prostate cancer.

However, after the surgery, Schroeder discovered that the wound had healed poorly. According to his family, his pain was so intense that he often could not sit.

According to a German newspaper, it took several weeks before the source of the pain was discovered.

When surgeons operated on Schroeder again, they were surprised to find 16 pieces of medical equipment in the man's body. This included a needle, a six-inch roll of bandage, a compress which was six inches in length, various swabs and a fragment of a surgical mask.

It took two operations to remove all the items.

The family is reportedly seeking about $127,000 in damages, while the hospital offered the family $660.

Samsung steals BlackBerry 10’s thunder with water-proof Galaxy Xcover 2 phone.

Underwater camera offers a cool option to those that enjoy an outdoor lifestyle

Korean giant Samsung Electronics, the undisputed leader of the smartphones domain, has stolen the thunder right out of Research in Motion’s BlackBerry 10 launch (scheduled for January 30) by unveiling the Samsung Xcover 2, a water- and dust-resistant rugged smartphone.

Samsung calls it the ideal smartphone for active explorers who are enjoying outdoor lifestyles and seeking a durable mobile device with essential smartphone capabilities.

This smartphone closely follows on the heels of the launch of the Sony Xperia Z .

Of course there are other water-resistant phones in the market, including the Motorola Defy and Defy Plus, and the Samsung Galaxy Xcover, the predecessor to the Galaxy Xcover 2.

But what makes this launch particularly interesting is that Samsung chose to unveil it just days ahead of the scheduled BlackBerry 10 launch on January 30. Analysts were actually expecting the rumoured Xcover 2 to be launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain (February 25-28).

The mid-range smartphone is IP67 certified, which means that “the Galaxy Xcover 2 is optimised to endure against the most rugged outdoor conditions, whether you’re at work or play,” says Samsung.

“You can now take photos under water with the direct camera key, hold on tight to your device with the strap holder and not worry about dropping your phone as the battery cover lock gives added protection,” the Korean company said in a statement.

“Protected against the elements, it is dust and sand proof. It’s even water resistant to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes (IP67 Certified),” the company said.

The new smartphone runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) layered with Motion UI and takes over from its younger sibling, Galaxy Xcover.

So it seems that Samsung will go to any length (or waterproof depth) to retain its leadership status in the smartphones domain. While its Galaxy S3 (and the rumoured Galaxy S4) are pitted right against Apple’s iPhone 5, it is continuing its philosophy of launching numerous models to keep every kind of smartphone enthusiast interested.

The Xcover 2 comes equipped with pre-downloaded Google map data, an enhanced GPS + GLONASS which shortens the satellite signal detection by up to 20 per cent to track your location more accurately, LED Flash next to the camera which can be used like a torch and a battery capacity of 570 hours (1,700mAh), making the GALAXY Xcover 2, in Samsung’s own words, the best possible smartphone partner for outdoor exploration.

The phone also has the Cardio Trainer Pro workout application, which will apparently help us achieve our fitness goals by creating a tailored training program, checking our progress and recording our track and speed. We won’t talk much about that, though.

For everyday rugged use, Samsung says users can expect the powerful performance characteristic of a Samsung smartphone with the robust Galaxy Xcover 2 shell.

In addition, the phone looks cool, but Samsung has not announced its pricing – yet. Perhaps we’ll know at next month’s MWC event in Barcelona.

Eve Secures ‘Lip Lock’ Album Release Date.

Former Ruff Ryders member Eve gives her much anticipated ‘Lip Lock’ album an official release date.

It looks like after all the rumors and speculation, Eve will in fact drop her much delayed fourth studio album dubbed ‘Lip Lock‘ later this year.

After recently dropping the music video to her lead track ‘She Bad Bad,’ Eve has decided to give her project a May 14th release date. If it seems like forever since you last heard an album from Eve, that’s because it was. This will be Eve’s first project in 11 years.

“Lip Lock is the album I’ve always wanted to make and it represents me coming back into the game—lyrically locking it down. But I also like the title because it can be a play on words,” Eve stated.

Lip Lop will feature a solid guest roster with appearances from Snoop Dogg, Juicy J, Pusha T, and we hope that DMX will once again join forces with Eve, as its been already confirmed Swizz Beatz will be producing at least one track on the project.

Tyga Performs Rack City at 2013 AVN Awards.

Young Money artist Tyga hit the stage at the 2013 AVN Awards to perform his hit single ‘Rack City.’

Last year Tyga made media headlines when he announced he would be releasing his own pornographic film entitled ‘Rack City: The XXX Movie‘ playing off the title of his popular song ‘Rack City.’

Although it’s Tyga’s first foray into the adult film industry, he seems to be doing pretty well as ‘Rack City: The XXX Movie’ was nominated for 3 separate AVN Awards including “Best Wall-to-Wall Release”, “Best Oral Sex Scene”, and one that we’re not too surprised about considering he is a rapper, “Best Music Soundtrack”.

The event featured some of the biggest names in the Adult Film industry, and Tyga was there to entertain them with a performance of ‘Rack City.’

During the performance (around the :30 mark), transsexual adult film star “Vanity” comes up from the audience to simulate performing oral sex on the Compton native while he performed.

Check out Tyga’s 2013 AVN Awards performance below.

WEIRD: Sweden unveils Coffin with an in-built Sound System.

SWEDEN: If you do not wish to rest in peace, you can ask your heirs to order one of these coffins from Sweden. The special 'musical coffin' comes with an in-built stereo sound system.

Fredrik Hjelmquist says his CataCombo Sound System is the ideal because it allows people to choose their own playlist before they die so they can listen to their favourite pieces of music from beyond the grave, reports UK website Orange.

The system doesn't come cheap at £18,500 but it also allows relatives to make changes to the playlist by using a touchscreen built into the headstone.

The music is piped into the coffin via two-way front speakers, four-inch midbass drivers, "divine" tweeters and "a hell-of-an-eight-inch subwoofer", its maker says.

The system is completely soundproofed so it does not wake the 'dead'?

The creator of the system believes that just because a person is dead, he/she should not be 'deprived of life-enhancing power of music'.

Mom arrested after cheering too Loudly at Daughter's Graduation

USA: A proud mother was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after cheering too loudly at her daughter's high school graduation ceremony in South Carolina.

Shannon Cooper says she spent several hours in jail Saturday night after being escorted from her daughter Iesha's South Florence High School graduation in handcuffs, WPDE-TV reported.

Police told the station they had warned attendees prior to the graduation ceremony that anyone who cheered or screamed would be escorted from the venue. While not commenting on Cooper's case directly, they said those who were disorderly as they were escorted out were arrested.

But Cooper said she could not believe the decision to remove her from the Florence Civic Center, where the ceremony was held.

"Disorderly conduct? What's the disorderly conduct?" she said. "How was I so disorderly you know any different from just a happy parent? I didn't resist arrest, nothing."

Cooper was booked into jail for several hours before posting a $225 bond.

Man irons face when phone rings

To add insult to injury, he banged his head against bathroom door as well.

POLAND: A man in Poland tried to impress his wife by doing his bit of housework. However, the man lived to regret his good deed as he managed to iron his face when the phone rang.

The 32-year-old man, who was ironing some clothes when his mobile phone went off, automatically put the device in his hand, ironically a hot iron, to his ears to respond to the call, reports UK website Orange.

The man's attention was on the boxing match that he was watching while doing the dreaded housejob.

After feeling incredible pain, he rushed to the washroom to apply water on his burnt cheek and ears, only to ram into the bathroom door.

So, now he looks like one of the boxers who has lost his match. He has a bruised eye and a burnt cheek to show for his wee bit of multi-tasking at home.

With the ever rising cost of building materials, Bebe Cool has bowed to pressure and used ordinary iron sheets.  Bebe Cool who had earlier aimed at using Decra roofing tiles resorted to iron sheets as a last resort to cut down on costs.

However Bebe Cool did not hide his happiness when he bragged that he took 'snailish' steps but has finally reached his goals.

Citing the Luganda proverb, Bebe Cool said, "Akwata Empola’Atuuka Waala."

Cleaner steals Train AND crashes it into a House.

THREE families had a lucky escape when this train smashed into their flats after being stolen by a cleaner.

The 22-year-old woman, who was badly hurt in the crash, took it from the depot where she was working.

She drove the empty train for a mile before it careered off the tracks for 30 yards and hit the building in Sweden. No one inside was hurt.

Bosses could not explain why the cleaner in Stockholm stole the four-carriage train.

Nebanda: Kalungi Wins Round One

The trial of Adam Kalungi, the prime suspect in the mysterious death of Butaleja Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda, has taken a new twist with Makindye Court Chief Magistrate Esther Nambayo dismissing the case of supplying and dispensing narcotic drugs.

Prosecution had earlier alleged that Kalungi and five others possessed illicit drugs which killed Nebanda in December 2012.

The case struck off the charge sheet after prosecution fell short of providing detailed information on where, when and how the drugs were supplied.

Nambayo agreed with the lawyers of the accused, Mcdusman Kabega and Yunus Kasirivu, that the charge sheet does not clearly indicate who received the illicit drugs and their specifics.

“They charge them with supplying and dispensing restricted drugs but the name of drugs supplied is not mentioned, the date at which the case was committed is not clearly stated since they refer to the period between September and December 2012 and the person to whom the drugs was supplied is not mentioned so it’s hard to know where the case was committed since there was no recipient,” observed Kabega.

This implies that Kalungi will defend himself against charges of manslaughter and unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.

Represented by senior lawyer Geoffrey Kandeebe, Kalungi remains hesitant in applying for bail in fear of being re-arrested.

Meanwhile, state prosecutor Samali Wakhooli has challenged the bail application for Kalungi’s co-accused, saying state used a considerable portion of resources to secure their arrest.

“We don’t want to incur heavy costs in looking for the accused if they abscond,” said Wakhooli.

But Kabega blasted the prosecutor, saying all the accused have got their original passports in Police custody which the court can get once requested.

Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate has adjourned the case to Feb 4 when the suspects will be returned to court and it is on the same date that the magistrate is expected to announce the date to start hearing the case.(Chimp Reports)

PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 could cost just $350 (924,290 ugx), expected to launch in May.

Sony (SNE) and Microsoft (MSFT) are both expected to announce their next-generation gaming consoles at the Electronics Entertainment Expo in June, or even a little before then. While we have seen rumored specs for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox 720, one thing that has escaped us is a possible price tag.

In a research note to investors on Monday, Colin Sebastian of Baird Equity Research suggested that both consoles could retail for between $350 and $400 in the U.S., Games Industry International reported. The analyst revealed that during the Consumer Electronics Show last week he spent time “with a number of companies involved in video game development and distribution,” who informed him that the next-generation consoles will be “largely built from ‘off the shelf’ high-end PC components, along with hybrid physical/digital distribution models, enhanced voice controls and motion sensing, and broad multi-media capabilities.”

Sebastian believes that “a PC-based architecture (Intel chips in the case of Xbox) should have a number of advantages over custom-developed silicon.” In his opinion, there will be less of a “learning curve” for software developers compared to completely new technology, and the cost of production and retail price points should be lower than prior console launches.

Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 in 2005 with a top end price of $399, while Sony released the PlayStation 3 a year later for $499 and $599 respectively.

“It will be easier to build online services around PC chip architecture, including flexible business models (free-to-play, subscriptions) and multi-media (over the top) content offerings,” the analyst added. “For Microsoft, this design will also allow for more integration with Windows 8 and Windows Mobile devices.”

Sebastian expects Sony to launch the PlayStation 4 in October and Microsoft to launch the Xbox 720 in November. (Yahoo News)

James Mulwana Obituary: Why He Had to Die.

I write, joining many out there, to mourn the passing of a great hero of our times.

In a country that glorifies, reveres and then, worships politicians as if they were godsend; in a continent that elevates these same politicians over entrepreneurs, teachers, doctors and sages, it is hard to state with precision that the departed Ugandan industrialist Dr. James Mulwana was easily the most patriotic Ugandan of the passing generation.

In a nation where citizens reserve for thieving civil servants front seat recognition at funerals, church and weddings, relegating innovators, professors, policemen and soldiers to the back seats, James Mulwana will pass on like any other ordinary Ugandan who lived on his own, worked so hard and eventually burnt out because he was not a politician or a rich civil servant who never sought to work ‘smart’ as a quick route to success.

In a nation where, unlike humble- educated Mulwana- the elite perennially commit a huge chunk of the national budget to financing a bloated public administration structure, buy more vehicles than fix the roads and exhaust the annual purse five months to the next budget reading, a few entrepreneurs like James who work their heart out to creat jobs in order to leave this country a better place than they found it, will always die off without the political fanfare and heroic medals.

His contribution to this country’s social structural betterment will definitely attract volumes of commentary and books for years to come. Mr. Mulwana’s single effort in the industrialization process prompted some of my most vivid Pan Africanists to pose the question yesterday; ‘Uganda is slowly moving to take off stage, how can a man who has contributed to this process so immensely just abandon ship so easily?’

President Yoweri Museveni was fond of referring to Mulwana every time he delved into his pet subject of Transformation. He often argued that if the nation had ten Mulwanas, ten Mukwanos and others, Uganda would be a first world country. But His wish never came so fast to fulfillment because the nation’s DNA and that of it political managers was one that continued to despise local investors, taxed them out of business and failed to legislate against dumping and couldn’t protect them. Thus, at the passing on of this great hero, our supermarkets were still strewn with honey packs from the United United States, eggs from Southern Africa, Chilli and Tomato Source from the West and Middle East, fruit juice from Egypt and United Arab Emirates when our people are stuck with rotting pineapples, mangoes, pepper and eggs. Bee Farmers in Bushenyi, Luweero and West Nile were struggling to compete with better honey packs from the USA on local shelves. To this, Mulwana must died a bitter man.

But to his relentless effort, from nutrition, to sanitation, education and motoring, James Mulwana’s products were the FULCRUM with him as the EFFORT and us as the LAOD. My kids love his Jessa brand of milk. A friend who runs a supermarket around Kirinya in Bweyogerere tells me this brand sells out in seconds and the demand is overwhelming. Now wonder, I always struggle to feed my kids on milk from my favorite long-horned Nkore cow of the ancient Nile valley whenever Jessa runs out.

In Uganda Batteries, Uganda did not only find some truest sense of economic independence, the jobs created aside, the informal citizens, the artisans in the multiple garages around the country found a job; fixing batteries so that the motoring industry could keep fueling and driving Uganda forward.

In Nice House of Plastics, we got basins, Buckets and plates for not only home use but also to assist in the provision of comfort at school. Of the millions that have gone to school in Uganda since perhaps 1988, no one can claim they never found convenience in using his plastics. If they didn’t, at least his NICE brand of pens came in handy and with it, Uganda has steadily and heavily brought illiteracy rates down, solving the Human Resource bottleneck of the 1970s.

With Uganda’s stability and the resultant growth of the entertainment industry, thousands of small scale entrepreneurs found a source of income from his plastic chairs as events managers and service providers. Anybody from across this nation, who owns at least 100 plastic chairs from Nice House of Plastics is guaranteed of Shs. 100,000 weekly income from a party or a funeral. My mother, a retired primary school teacher far deep in Mbarara makes Shs. 200,000 a week from these plastics. So much did Mulwana value this little business magic that during his annual staff parties, he always asked every worker to take with them the Plastic chair they were seated on back home and make something out of it. Maybe some of them set up saloons, small bars and restaurants and used these plastics. That was the humble Mulwana magic. His ability to make his thoughts resonate with the lives of ordinary Ugandans was and will still be beyond ordinary imagination and possibly place him in the ranks of an African Rockefeller. If young entrepreneurs like me needed a vivid African role model, we found one in Mulwana. He was a combination of resilience, toughness and humility- key values of a typical successful Entrepreneur.

Perhaps these and more could only be best captured by a friend- John Ssempebwa- who immediately penned on his facebook wall, the following words within hours of his death.

“Oh Dr. James Mulwana! Negotiating for the profit-maximizing private sector with tax-thirsty Government is a Herculean task! By design, Government will always eschew Pro-profit proposals that wound Allen Kagina’s collection. I gaudily remember the power crisis in which the private sector proposed tax waivers on generator diesel to mitigate losses arising from power shortage. Off course, URA shunned it, but inexplicably, Mulwana swayed government to grant a tax waiver on generator diesel to manufacturers, discotheques, exporters, name it! In Mulwana, the private sector had a patriotic entrepreneur that altruistically negotiated for all businesses before he negotiated for his own! He had an inimitable, acquiescent but effective approach to negotiating with Government. “Mutabani”, he often beseeched insensitive civil servants, “One day, you will start your own business, prepare a soft landing for yourself, grant us this small request, sir”. And Voila, without referring to his connection in state house, he successfully vouched for the private sector, free of charge! At PSFU, he tabooed all monetary benefits to board members, yet he could easily have passed that resolution. Goodbye Sir, from you, we have learnt more than we learnt from these universities. I am proud to have worked with you for three years.”

In 2007, The Red Pepper, a member of the Uganda Manufacturers Association ( UMA) was a beneficiary of the diesel waiver. Perhaps had it not been James Mulwana’s unselfish effort, we wouldn’t have lived to celebrate our tenth anniversary four years later. Am sure other businesses in our category would have closed shop.

I always tell my fellow young people that one day, when our creator decides to invite us, our legacy should never be measured by how much money we left on our bank accounts but by how much we left our societies and those that look up to us better off. Deep down our hearts, Mulwana left us better off. Our challenge will be how much we leave a better world for our children and their children’s children. Perhaps he had to leave the stage so we understand better the values of honest hard work and the benefit of entrepreneurship. He had to die so we get to start valuing those who seek to harness the world to get us jobs. He had to go so we realize that this country will not industrialize unless the political class wakes from its slumber and protect our local industries from dumping. The struggle starts with you! (Red Pepper)

MP Lyomoki Arrested At WBS.

Police on Monday morning sealed off WBS TV headquarters in Naguru, Bukoto in Kampala where they arrested Workers’ MP Sam Lyomoki.

Lyomoki, who was at the television station for a morning talk show, was rushed to police’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka, a Kampala suburb for snubbing Police summons.

The deputy director of the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate, Geoffrey Musana, had on January 7, invited for the second time the MP to appear at Kireka.

The legislator was supposed to explain why he alleged that government had a hand in the death of Butaleja Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda.

Lyomoki on Monday told press at Parliament that he had received a telephone call from Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s office about the fresh summons but said he would not voluntarily appear at SIU for questioning, insisting he had no case to answer.

He also blasted Police for concocting a “fake report” that Nebanda died of drug abuse “yet we know that he succumbed to poison.”

Deputy Police publicist Vincent Ssekate was not readily available for comment.

Lyomoki now joins fellow MPs Chris Baryomunsi and Mohammed Nsereko who were arrested over statements that disputed the Police investigation report on Nebanda’s widely publicized death.

Addressing press in December 2012, President Museveni described MPs who accuse his government of killing Nebanda as “idiots and fools” who would be “fought and defeated.”(Chimp Reports)
